WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT

Some people grow up believing without ever questioning.

Others spend their entire lives asking questions.

Then there are people who believe, but still go through moments when they feel lost. They pray, they search, they ask for help, and sometimes they hear nothing back. At least that is how it feels.

That silence can be frightening.

You start wondering whether God can hear you. You begin asking whether you have done something wrong. You question whether your prayers are reaching anywhere. You may even wonder whether the faith you carried for years was real, or whether you were only holding on because you were afraid to let go.

This song connects with people who have stood in that place.

It connects with anyone who has ever looked toward heaven and asked for an answer.

It connects with people who have prayed beside a hospital bed.

It connects with people who have lost someone they loved.

It connects with people who have watched their life fall apart and could not understand why.

It connects with people who did everything they believed was right, yet still found themselves facing pain, fear, loneliness, illness, betrayal, grief, or uncertainty.

There are moments in life when belief does not disappear, but it becomes difficult to feel.

You may still believe in Jesus Christ.

You may still believe in God.

You may still believe there is a purpose behind your life.

But inside, you are asking one honest question.

Where are You?

That question does not always come from a lack of faith.

Sometimes it comes from a person who is trying desperately to hold on to faith.

There is a difference.

Someone who has stopped caring usually does not keep searching.

Someone who has completely given up often stops asking.

The person asking where God is may still be reaching for Him.

That person may be hurt, confused, exhausted, frightened, or angry, but they are still reaching.

That is what makes the question so powerful.

I need to know.

Not because I want to challenge God.

Not because I want to prove something.

Not because I think I deserve every answer.

I need to know because I am trying to understand how to keep walking.

I need to know because I feel alone.

I need to know because the road is dark.

I need to know because I am looking for enough light to take one more step.

People who have experienced that kind of spiritual uncertainty will recognize themselves inside this song.

They know what it feels like to pray without hearing a voice.

They know what it feels like to search for a sign.

They know what it feels like to wonder whether silence means absence.

They also know that sometimes the answer does not arrive the way we expected.

It may not come through thunder.

It may not come through a miracle that changes everything overnight.

It may come slowly.

It may come through patience.

It may come through another person.

It may come through an unexpected feeling of calm.

It may come through the realization that you survived something you never thought you could survive.

It may come when you look back and recognize that the strength you needed was already being given to you, even while you were asking where it was.

That is the journey inside I Need to Know.

It begins with questions.

It walks through darkness.

It listens to silence.

It struggles with fear.

Then it slowly begins to understand that silence is not always emptiness.

Sometimes silence is where a person finally becomes still enough to listen.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

I have spent a lot of time asking questions.

That is part of who I am.

I look at life and wonder why things happen the way they do.

I look at people.

I look at pain.

I look at faith.

I look at what we are told and what we actually experience.

I do not believe there is anything wrong with asking.

A person who asks questions is not always trying to argue.

Sometimes they are trying to understand.

Sometimes they are trying to make sense of something that has shaken them deeply.

Sometimes they are trying to protect what little faith they have left.

The title I Need to Know comes from that place.

There are times when wanting an answer becomes more than simple curiosity.

It becomes a need.

You need to know why your life changed.

You need to know why someone was taken from you.

You need to know why you were allowed to suffer.

You need to know whether anyone heard you when you asked for help.

You need to know whether there was a reason behind what happened.

You need to know whether you are walking alone.

The problem is that life does not always answer those questions clearly.

Many of us are raised with the idea that if we pray, an answer will come.

Sometimes it does.

Sometimes something happens that is so clear that you cannot ignore it.

Other times, nothing seems to happen.

You keep praying.

You keep waiting.

You keep looking.

The room stays quiet.

The illness continues.

The person does not return.

The financial problem remains.

The loneliness remains.

The fear remains.

That is when a person begins to struggle.

It is easy to speak about faith when everything is working.

It is easy to thank God when life is giving us what we hoped for.

It is much harder when the answer appears to be no.

It is harder when there is no answer at all.

I have lived through enough to understand what it means to question life.

I have experienced pain that lasted far longer than I thought I could carry it.

I have gone through periods when my body would not allow me to live normally.

There were years when sleep barely came.

There were times when pain controlled nearly every part of the day.

When a person lives with that kind of pain, the questions change.

You are not asking for luxury.

You are not asking to become rich.

You are not asking for something unnecessary.

You are asking for relief.

You are asking to sleep.

You are asking to move.

You are asking to feel like a human being again.

When those simple requests appear unanswered, it affects the way you think.

It affects your relationship with your body.

It affects your relationship with people.

It can affect your relationship with God.

You begin wondering whether there is a reason.

You wonder whether you are being tested.

You wonder whether you are being punished.

You wonder whether anyone understands what you are going through.

You may begin asking whether God is close or far away.

Those questions are not always spoken loudly.

Sometimes they stay inside.

That is one of the reasons the opening of this song is so direct.

Why is this happening to me?

There is no polite introduction.

There is no attempt to sound holy.

It is a human being speaking from confusion.

That matters to me.

People often change the way they speak when they talk about God.

They use words they would never use in normal conversation.

They try to sound proper.

They try to sound worthy.

They may hide their anger, fear, or uncertainty because they think God should only hear the clean version.

I have always believed honesty means more than performance.

If you are confused, say you are confused.

If you are hurt, say you are hurt.

If you are angry, admit you are angry.

If you feel abandoned, say that is how you feel.

God already knows what is inside you.

Hiding it does not make it disappear.

The person in this song is speaking honestly.

Jesus Christ, are You there?

Can You hear me?

Those are not words written for appearance.

They come from someone who needs reassurance.

There is also something important in the line about searching the silence.

Silence can become a place.

You can live inside it.

When you are alone for long periods of time, silence stops being nothing.

It becomes something you notice.

It can be peaceful.

It can also become heavy.

During my own periods of isolation, I had a great deal of time to think.

When the noise of the world is removed, your thoughts become louder.

You begin facing questions you may have avoided for years.

You think about what happened.

You think about the people who stayed.

You think about the people who left.

You think about mistakes.

You think about losses.

You think about the life you wanted and the life you received.

You think about whether there is still a purpose ahead of you.

For some people, silence becomes the place where fear grows.

For others, silence becomes the place where they finally hear themselves.

Sometimes it becomes both.

I Need to Know uses silence in both ways.

At first, silence feels like proof that nobody is answering.

Later, the person begins to understand that the silence was not empty.

The difference was not the silence.

The difference was the way the person entered it.

At the beginning, they entered silence demanding an immediate answer.

Later, they entered it willing to listen.

That is a difficult lesson.

We often believe listening means waiting for words.

We expect to hear something clear.

We want a sentence.

We want instructions.

We want God to tell us exactly what to do next.

Sometimes listening is not about hearing a voice.

Sometimes it is about recognizing what remains after the panic begins to settle.

There may be a quiet strength underneath the fear.

There may be a feeling telling you not to give up.

There may be a memory of someone who loved you.

There may be a thought you cannot explain that says you are going to survive.

There may be an unexpected peace that arrives before the problem is solved.

That does not mean every feeling comes from God.

It means that faith is not limited to dramatic experiences.

The idea that God always speaks softly in the song is not meant to say God can only be found in silence.

It is meant to remind us how easily noise can cover what matters.

Our minds are full.

Our phones are full.

Our days are full.

Our fears are full.

We are constantly being told what to think, what to buy, what to fear, who to blame, and what we are missing.

Then we wonder why we cannot hear anything deeper.

Sometimes the answer is not missing.

Sometimes we have no quiet place left to receive it.

WHY I WROTE THIS SONG

I wrote I Need to Know because I wanted to be honest about faith.

I did not want to write a song that began with every answer already in place.

That would not have felt real to me.

I wanted to write about the person who believes but still struggles.

The person who prays but still feels alone.

The person who wants to trust God but cannot understand why so much pain exists.

The person who wonders why the world keeps turning while hearts are breaking every day.

I wanted to write about the questions people often keep to themselves.

Why do good people suffer?

Why are children hurt?

Why are families torn apart?

Why do some prayers appear to be answered while others do not?

Why does one person recover while another dies?

Why does one person find help while another is overlooked?

I do not have a simple answer for every one of those questions.

This song does not pretend I do.

What it offers is a way to keep walking without having all the answers.

That may be one of the most honest forms of faith I can write about.

Not certainty about every mystery.

Trust while mystery remains.

The song begins with a person demanding reassurance.

They want a sign.

They want a voice.

They want the path to become clear.

Then something changes.

The person begins to understand that God may not always answer in the way they expected.

The answer may not come from the sky.

It may come through patience.

It may come through the strength to continue.

It may come through someone who refuses to leave.

It may come through a moment of peace in the middle of fear.

It may come years later, when the person looks back and recognizes that they were being carried through the very moments when they believed they were walking alone.

That movement from I need to know to now I know is the heart of the song.

The person does not receive an explanation for every tragedy.

They receive the understanding that they were not abandoned.

Sometimes that is the answer a person needs most.

WHY THIS MATTERS TO ME

This song matters to me because I know what it means to live with unanswered questions.

I know what it means to go through pain and wonder how long it will continue.

I know what it means to be alone with your own thoughts.

I know how silence can become heavy.

I also know that understanding often arrives slowly.

We want answers immediately.

Life does not always work that way.

Sometimes we do not understand what a period of life changed inside us until years later.

During the struggle, we only know that it hurts.

Later, we may recognize that we became more patient.

More aware.

More compassionate.

More honest.

Stronger in ways we never asked to become.

That does not mean every terrible event was necessary.

It does not mean pain should be welcomed.

It means that pain does not have to own the rest of our lives.

Something can still grow inside us from a place we never would have chosen.

This song also matters to me because many people believe they have wandered too far from God.

They believe they have made too many mistakes.

They believe they waited too long.

They believe God would no longer want them.

They may carry shame for years.

They may see themselves only through the worst thing they have done.

I Need to Know moves in the opposite direction.

It says mercy has not disappeared.

It says the door is still open.

It says wandering does not mean you are beyond God’s reach.

That does not remove responsibility.

A person can admit what they did.

A person can change.

A person can make amends where possible.

A person can still believe they are worth saving.

Mercy and responsibility can exist together.

I believe people need to hear that.

WHY THIS SONG FITS MOITA

MOITA is not only about one kind of life.

It is not only about anger.

It is not only about pain.

It is not only about relationships, betrayal, survival, history, strength, or loss.

MOITA is about questions.

Why do people behave the way they do?

Why do families fall apart?

Why do people leave when life becomes difficult?

Why are some voices heard while others are ignored?

Why do we repeat mistakes?

Why do people hide behind appearances?

Why does suffering change one person and destroy another?

Why do we believe what we believe?

Why are we here?

I Need to Know belongs in the MOITA catalogue because it asks one of the biggest questions a person can ask.

Where is God when I need Him?

That question is not separate from real life.

It is often born directly from real life.

It appears when pain becomes too large.

It appears when the explanations people give us are no longer enough.

It appears when we are forced to face how little control we actually have.

MOITA has always been about looking directly at life instead of hiding from it.

Faith deserves that same honesty.

I do not want to write a faith song that pretends believers never doubt.

I do not want to write words that sound perfect but do not feel human.

A real person can believe in Jesus and still become afraid.

A real person can trust God and still ask why.

A real person can pray and still feel silence.

That honesty is what makes this song part of MOITA.

The song also connects to growth.

Growth is rarely comfortable.

People sometimes speak about growth as though it is inspiring from beginning to end.

It is not.

Growth can be confusing.

It can involve losing things.

It can involve realizing you were wrong.

It can involve admitting you do not have control.

It can involve waiting.

It can involve changing the way you understand faith.

The person at the end of I Need to Know is not the same person who began the song.

The questions were part of the journey.

The fear was part of the journey.

The silence was part of the journey.

The searching was part of the journey.

The song does not simply declare faith.

It walks through the struggle required to reach it.

That is why it belongs inside MOITA.

READ THIS FIRST

Before reading these lyrics, think about a moment when you needed an answer and none came.

Think about a night when the room felt too quiet.

Think about a prayer you repeated because you did not know what else to do.

Think about the times you searched for a sign.

You may have received one.

You may still be waiting.

This song does not ask you to pretend your questions are gone.

It asks you to listen to them honestly.

It asks you to consider whether silence always means absence.

It asks whether the strength that kept you moving may have been part of the answer.

Read these words as a conversation.

A person begins by speaking to Jesus Christ from a place of fear.

The answers do not arrive all at once.

The understanding grows slowly.

That is how life often works.

We ask.

We wait.

We wander.

We listen.

Then one day, we look back and recognize that we were being carried through moments when we believed we were walking alone.

FULL LYRICS

I NEED TO KNOW

Why is this happening to me?
Was I so blind I couldn’t see?
Jesus Christ, are You there?
Can You hear me?
I’ve searched the silence,
I’ve walked alone.
Why does heaven feel so far from home?

I keep reaching through the darkness,
Looking for a single ray.
If You’re standing right beside me,
Why can’t I find the way?

I need to know
Are You walking next to me,
Even when I cannot see?
Give me strength when I feel low,
Light the path so I can grow.
If You’re speaking, let me hear.
If You’re near, erase my fear.
Jesus Christ, don’t let me go

I need to know.
I need to know.

How can the world keep turning
When hearts are breaking every day?
What have I missed?
What truth escaped me?
Have I been looking the wrong way?

The light is not a distant promise.
The light is living deep within.
God is always speaking softly,
But we must learn to listen.

A quiet voice surrounded me.
“Be patient
The answer isn’t far away.
My mercy has never left you.
Sometimes I let you wander,
But never beyond My reach.
I have not abandoned you.
Open your heart,
And you will find Me.”

The fear began to fade away.
The silence wasn’t empty anymore.
Every prayer I’d ever spoken
Had reached His open door.

Close your eyes
Be still for just a moment.
The answer isn’t always thunder.
Sometimes it’s found
In the quiet between your thoughts.

He’s beside you when you stumble.
He’s beside you when you stand.
The hands you’ve been searching for
Have always held your hand.

I need to know
Now I know You’re walking here,
Standing with me through the years.
Every trial helped me grow.
Every answer came in slow.
You were there through every storm,
Keeping my spirit safe and warm.
Jesus Christ, You’ve always known
Now I know.
Now I know.

I don’t need another sign.
I don’t need another voice.
You were never far away.
I simply had to make the choice.

Jesus Christ
Thank You for never leaving me.

SECTION ONE

LYRIC JOURNEY

PART 1

Why is this happening to me?

That is where the song begins because that is where a lot of people begin when life suddenly stops making sense.

It is one of the most basic questions a person can ask, but there is nothing small about it.

When everything is going well, people do not usually sit around asking why life is happening to them. They live it. They go to work. They make plans. They complain about little things. They think about tomorrow.

Then something happens.

Pain arrives.

Someone dies.

A diagnosis changes everything.

A family starts breaking apart.

A person loses something they thought would always be there.

The future they imagined suddenly disappears.

That is when the question changes.

Why is this happening to me?

I wanted to start there because I did not want to make faith sound cleaner than real life.

People sometimes think a song about God should begin with confidence.

I did not want that.

I wanted it to begin with a human being standing in confusion.

Was I so blind I couldn’t see?

Now the question turns inward.

That is something people do all the time when something goes wrong.

We start searching ourselves.

What did I miss?

Was there a warning?

Should I have noticed something earlier?

Did I make a decision that led me here?

Could I have stopped this?

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes we do miss things.

Sometimes we ignore signs because we do not want to see them.

Sometimes we trust the wrong person.

Sometimes we make choices that eventually come back to us.

But not every painful thing happens because somebody failed to notice something.

That is important.

There are illnesses that arrive without invitation.

There are people who die even though everyone around them did everything possible.

There are tragedies nobody could have predicted.

There are situations where a person can spend years asking what they did wrong and never find an answer because they did not do anything wrong.

Still, the mind searches.

That is human nature.

When something hurts badly enough, we want a reason.

Sometimes any reason feels easier than having none.

Jesus Christ, are You there?

This is where the song becomes direct.

I am not talking around God anymore.

I am talking to Jesus Christ.

There is something very different about saying His name.

It makes the question personal.

I am not asking whether religion exists.

I am not asking whether churches exist.

I am not asking whether people believe.

I am asking Him.

Are You there?

That question can sound almost shocking to some people.

Maybe they think a believer should never say something like that.

I disagree.

If I believe Jesus Christ is there, then I should be able to speak honestly to Him.

If I am confused, I can say I am confused.

If I am angry, I can admit I am angry.

If I am afraid, I can say I am afraid.

Pretending does not make faith stronger.

Can You hear me?

That question is even more personal.

A person can believe God exists and still wonder whether their own voice is reaching Him.

That is where the loneliness comes in.

There are times when people pray and immediately feel comfort.

There are other times when they pray and feel nothing.

They say the words.

They wait.

Nothing changes.

They pray again.

They wait again.

Still nothing seems to change.

That does something to a person.

You start wondering whether your prayer went anywhere.

You start wondering whether you are saying it wrong.

You start wondering whether God is listening to everybody except you.

I do not think those thoughts make someone faithless.

I think they make someone human.

I’ve searched the silence,

I like the word searched here because it means I did not simply sit quietly.

I was looking for something inside that silence.

There is a difference.

Silence is strange.

Most people think silence is empty.

Spend enough time inside it and you realize it is not empty at all.

Silence can be filled with memory.

Regret.

Fear.

Questions.

Old conversations.

People you miss.

Things you wish you had done differently.

Things you wish somebody else had done differently.

Silence can become louder than a room full of people.

I have spent enough time alone to know that.

When everything around you becomes quiet, your own mind becomes very hard to escape.

That can be painful.

It can also force you to face things.

There is nowhere else to look.

No crowd.

No distraction.

No noise to hide behind.

Just you and whatever is inside your head.

The person in this song searches that silence because they are hoping God is somewhere inside it.

I’ve walked alone.

This does not only mean physically walking without somebody beside you.

A person can be surrounded by people and still feel alone.

You can sit at a table with family and believe nobody understands what is happening inside you.

You can be in a relationship and still feel completely alone.

You can walk into a church full of people and still wonder whether anybody sees you.

Loneliness is not always measured by the number of people in the room.

Sometimes loneliness is feeling that nobody can reach the part of you that hurts.

That is the loneliness inside this line.

Why does heaven feel so far from home?

I wanted heaven and home together because both are supposed to represent belonging.

Home is where you are supposed to feel safe.

Heaven is where many believers imagine complete peace.

Yet here, heaven feels far away.

That is the contradiction.

If God is close, why does He feel distant?

If heaven is real, why can I not feel any of that peace now?

The song does not answer immediately.

I did not want it to.

Some questions deserve time.

We rush too quickly sometimes.

Somebody tells us they are hurting and we immediately want to give them an answer.

Maybe we are uncomfortable with their pain.

Maybe we want to fix something that cannot be fixed with one sentence.

Sometimes the better thing is to stay with the question for a while.

Why does heaven feel so far from home?

Maybe because grief changes distance.

Maybe because fear changes distance.

Maybe because pain becomes so loud that everything else feels farther away.

That does not necessarily mean God moved.

It may mean the person can no longer feel where He is.

I keep reaching through the darkness,

This line tells me something important about the person.

They have not stopped.

They are still reaching.

That matters.

Darkness here is not only fear.

It is uncertainty.

It is not knowing what comes next.

There are periods in life when you cannot see very far ahead.

That can be frightening because most of us want some kind of control.

We want a plan.

We want to know what happens tomorrow.

We want to know whether something will work.

We want to know whether somebody will recover.

We want to know whether the relationship can be saved.

We want to know whether we will make it through.

Sometimes none of those answers are available.

All you can do is reach.

Looking for a single ray.

Not the whole sunrise.

One ray.

I think that matters.

When somebody is going through something truly difficult, telling them to imagine the rest of their life can be too much.

Sometimes they do not need the next ten years.

They need tomorrow morning.

Sometimes they do not even need tomorrow morning.

They need the next hour.

One ray can be enough.

A phone call.

A person sitting beside you.

A doctor saying there is another option.

A child hugging you.

A friend refusing to leave.

A prayer that finally brings one moment of calm.

We talk about little things as though they are little because they do not look dramatic from the outside.

To somebody who has been living in darkness, one ray is not little.

It can be the difference between continuing and giving up.

If You’re standing right beside me,

Now the song comes back to one of the biggest ideas inside it.

If faith says God is present, then the person wants to understand that presence.

If You are here, where are You?

If You are beside me, why can I not feel You?

If You’re standing right beside me, why can’t I find the way?

That is not a theological question written for a classroom.

That is a frightened person trying to understand their own life.

I think people have asked some version of this forever.

If God is here, why am I still hurting?

If God loves me, why did this happen?

If God is guiding me, why am I lost?

I do not have a neat answer for every one of those questions.

I would not trust anybody who claimed they did.

There are things in life I still do not understand.

There are losses I cannot explain.

There are situations where I can look at both sides and still not find an answer that makes the pain acceptable.

Sometimes faith is not having an answer.

Sometimes faith is refusing to stop the conversation.

That is where the song is now.

The person is still talking to Jesus.

They are confused.

They are frustrated.

They are searching.

But they have not stopped talking.

Then we reach the first chorus.

I need to know

By this point, those words carry more weight than they did as a title.

This is not curiosity.

It has become emotional survival.

I need to know whether I am alone.

I need to know whether these prayers matter.

I need to know whether this darkness has an end.

I need to know whether there is something on the other side of what I am going through.

Are You walking next to me,

Again, the question is about presence.

Not theory.

Presence.

Walking next to somebody is different from watching them from far away.

There is companionship in that image.

There is movement too.

The person is still moving.

Even when I cannot see?

That line is where faith enters the chorus most clearly.

If I could see everything, I would not need faith.

That is the difficult part.

Human beings like evidence.

We trust what we can touch.

We trust what we can measure.

Faith asks us to consider something we cannot always prove in the moment.

That does not mean abandoning thought.

It means recognizing that not everything important in life arrives with visible proof.

Love cannot always be measured.

Loyalty cannot always be measured.

Hope cannot always be measured.

Yet we know when those things change our lives.

Give me strength when I feel low,

I did not write, remove everything that hurts me.

The request is strength.

That is different.

Of course people want pain to disappear.

I have wanted pain to disappear.

There are moments when relief is all you can think about.

But sometimes relief does not come immediately.

Then strength becomes the prayer.

Give me enough to continue.

Give me enough to stand.

Give me enough to get through this day.

Light the path so I can grow.

The person wants more than escape.

They want growth.

That is where the chorus begins moving beyond fear.

Growth means asking whether something can come out of this besides pain.

That does not mean the pain was necessary.

I am careful with that.

I do not like telling people every horrible thing happened because they needed a lesson.

Some things are simply horrible.

Growth does not excuse them.

Growth means I refuse to let what happened own every day that follows.

If I can learn something, I will.

If I can become more compassionate, I will.

If I can recognize somebody else’s pain because I have known pain, then maybe something useful can come from what I went through.

If You’re speaking, let me hear.

That line begins changing the direction of the search.

At first, the person only asks why God is not answering.

Now they begin asking whether they are able to hear.

That is a very different question.

Maybe the problem is not that every answer is missing.

Maybe some answers do not look like the answers we expected.

If You’re near, erase my fear.

Fear is one of the loudest voices a person can have inside their head.

Fear predicts everything that can go wrong.

Fear takes one problem and turns it into ten.

Fear tells you tomorrow will be worse.

Fear tells you nobody is coming.

Fear tells you that you cannot handle what is ahead.

The request here is not complicated.

If You are close, help me stop being ruled by fear.

Jesus Christ, don’t let me go

This may be the simplest prayer in the first chorus.

Do not let me go.

There is no explanation.

There does not need to be.

Anyone who has ever felt close to the edge of something understands those words.

You do not always know what to ask for.

Sometimes you only know you do not want to be left alone.

I need to know.

The repetition matters because the question has not been answered yet.

We are still at the beginning of the journey.

The person has spoken honestly.

They have admitted fear.

They have admitted loneliness.

They have asked Jesus directly whether He is there.

They have asked for strength.

They have asked for light.

They have asked not to be let go.

But nothing has changed yet.

That is important.

The song does not rush faith.

The answer has not arrived.

The person is still waiting.

SECTION ONE

LYRIC JOURNEY

PART 2

How can the world keep turning

When hearts are breaking every day?

After the first chorus, the song widens its view.

Up until now, every question has been deeply personal.

My pain.

My fear.

My prayers.

My search.

Then the writer looks beyond himself.

He notices something that almost everyone notices sooner or later.

The world does not stop because one life is falling apart.

That can feel almost unbelievable when you are the one hurting.

You receive terrible news.

You lose someone you love.

Your entire future changes.

Then you walk outside and people are still laughing.

Children are still playing.

Traffic is still moving.

Coffee shops are still full.

The sun still rises.

The ordinary world keeps behaving as though nothing happened.

When you are carrying grief, that almost feels wrong.

You want time itself to stop for a while.

You want everyone else to understand that today is different.

Instead, the world keeps moving.

That can make suffering feel even lonelier.

I think everyone who has experienced deep loss understands this feeling.

The calendar keeps turning.

The clock keeps ticking.

Life continues.

But inside you, everything has stopped.

The lyric captures that strange contradiction with remarkable simplicity.

How can the world keep turning when hearts are breaking every day?

It is not only asking about one broken heart anymore.

It is asking about millions.

Every day someone receives a diagnosis they never wanted.

Every day someone says goodbye for the last time.

Every day someone loses a home.

Every day someone sits beside a hospital bed.

Every day someone wonders how they will survive tomorrow.

Most of those stories never become headlines.

Most happen quietly.

That is one reason compassion matters so much.

We rarely know what another person is carrying.

Someone may smile while fighting a battle nobody else can see.

Someone may appear angry when they are actually frightened.

Someone may seem distant because they are trying not to fall apart.

This lyric quietly reminds us of something important.

Every person we meet may be walking through a story we know nothing about.

What have I missed?

This question changes direction again.

Earlier the writer wondered whether God was listening.

Now he wonders whether he himself has overlooked something.

That takes humility.

It is much easier to believe every problem exists somewhere outside ourselves.

Sometimes the harder question is whether we have been looking in the wrong place.

Have I missed something important?

Have I misunderstood what faith really is?

Have I expected something that was never promised?

Have I ignored something that has been quietly there all along?

I think wisdom often begins with questions like these.

The older I become, the more I realize how often certainty gets replaced by curiosity.

Life teaches that very few things are as simple as they first appear.

What truth escaped me?

This line continues the search.

Truth is interesting because it often exists whether we recognize it or not.

Gravity worked before people understood it.

The earth turned long before anyone explained why.

Love existed before anyone wrote poems about it.

Sometimes truth is not missing.

Our understanding is.

That is where the person finds themselves now.

Maybe the answer has not escaped.

Maybe I have.

Maybe I have been looking somewhere else while the truth has quietly remained where it always was.

Have I been looking the wrong way?

This is one of the biggest turning points in the entire song.

Until now, almost every question has focused on where God is.

This one asks something different.

What if I have been searching incorrectly?

That single change transforms everything that follows.

It reminds me of people searching for their glasses while they are already wearing them.

The object never disappeared.

Their attention was simply somewhere else.

Life can work that way too.

We expect answers to arrive in one particular form.

If they do not, we assume there was no answer.

Maybe we wanted thunder.

Maybe the answer arrived as patience.

Maybe we wanted the storm removed.

Maybe the answer was strength to survive it.

Maybe we wanted certainty.

Maybe the answer was enough courage to take one more step.

This question opens the door for everything that comes next.

The light is not a distant promise.

The light is living deep within.

These two lines completely change the emotional direction of the song.

Until now, the person has been searching outside themselves.

Looking upward.

Looking ahead.

Looking for something beyond reach.

Now the song gently turns inward.

The light is not waiting only somewhere in the future.

It already exists.

That does not mean the person created it.

It means they are beginning to recognize something that fear had hidden.

Fear has a way of convincing us that darkness is all there is.

Hope quietly reminds us that darkness only exists because light exists somewhere.

The image of light has always been powerful because it represents more than brightness.

Light represents understanding.

Hope.

Wisdom.

Compassion.

Direction.

Truth.

Life itself.

When I wrote these words, I wanted readers to understand that sometimes we spend years searching for something that has already begun growing inside us.

Not because we are powerful on our own.

But because the strength to continue often arrives before we recognize it.

Think about people who survive incredibly difficult seasons.

Many of them say something interesting afterward.

“I never thought I could get through that.”

Yet they did.

Somewhere inside them was strength they had never seen before.

The light was already there.

They simply discovered it while walking through darkness.

God is always speaking softly,

But we must learn to listen.

This is one of the quietest moments in the entire journey.

Notice that the song does not say God only speaks softly.

It says He is always speaking softly.

The emphasis is on listening.

We often imagine answers arriving dramatically.

A booming voice.

A miracle.

Something impossible to misunderstand.

Life rarely unfolds that way.

Most of the biggest changes in our lives happen through ordinary moments.

A conversation.

A sentence somebody says at exactly the right time.

A doctor refusing to give up.

A friend who stays.

A child reminding us what matters.

A decision to forgive.

A decision to ask for help.

A decision to keep living.

Those moments rarely look dramatic.

Yet they quietly change the direction of an entire life.

I think our world has become so loud that we often expect truth to compete with noise.

It usually does not.

Truth is patient.

Hope is patient.

Love is patient.

Mercy is patient.

You normally discover them when life finally becomes quiet enough for you to notice.

A quiet voice surrounded me.

This is the first time the song stops asking questions.

Until now everything has been uncertainty.

Now something changes.

The person is no longer speaking.

They are listening.

That is a very important shift.

Faith is often described as speaking to God.

Sometimes faith also requires becoming still enough to hear.

The voice is described as quiet because reassurance rarely needs to shout.

Fear shouts.

Panic shouts.

Anger shouts.

Peace usually does not.

It simply arrives.

The song deliberately avoids making this moment dramatic.

There are no earthquakes.

No lightning.

No overwhelming spectacle.

Only a quiet voice.

That feels appropriate because the entire song has been preparing us for exactly this moment.

After all the searching, all the waiting, and all the questions, the answer finally begins not with power, but with gentleness.

“Be patient.”

These may be the hardest words for someone in pain to hear.

Not because they are wrong.

Because waiting hurts.

When someone is grieving, patience is difficult.

When someone is sick, patience is difficult.

When someone is frightened, patience is difficult.

When someone has prayed for years, patience becomes exhausting.

That is why these words matter.

They are not spoken by another person trying to explain suffering.

They are spoken inside the journey itself.

The voice does not criticize the person for asking.

It simply invites them to continue walking.

Sometimes patience is not passive.

Sometimes patience means surviving today.

Sometimes patience means refusing to give up before tomorrow arrives.

Sometimes patience is the bravest thing a person can do.

“The answer isn’t far away.”

That line does not promise the pain will disappear tomorrow.

It promises something different.

Understanding is closer than the person believes.

Sometimes we think the answer is waiting at the end of our lives.

Sometimes it begins changing us today.

There is comfort in that.

Not because every mystery disappears.

But because hope no longer feels impossible.

“My mercy has never left you.”

This is the first direct reassurance in the song.

Notice what the voice does not say.

It does not say you never struggled.

It does not say you never doubted.

It does not say you never wandered.

It speaks about mercy.

Mercy is important because it exists precisely where perfection does not.

If perfection were required, mercy would never be necessary.

Every human being fails.

Every human being has moments they regret.

Every human being carries something they wish they had done differently.

Mercy says your worst day does not have to become your permanent identity.

That is why these words become such an important landmark in the journey.

The person who began the song believing they had been abandoned now hears something completely different.

Not condemnation.

Not rejection.

Mercy.

The emotional atmosphere has changed.

The questions have not all disappeared.

But hope has quietly entered the room.

The journey is no longer travelling deeper into darkness.

It has begun turning toward light.

SECTION ONE

LYRIC JOURNEY

PART 3

Sometimes I let you wander,

But never beyond My reach.

These words introduce one of the deepest ideas in the entire song.

Notice that wandering is acknowledged.

It is not denied.

The voice does not pretend the journey has always been straight.

It recognizes that people lose their way.

We all do.

Some wander because they are hurt.

Some because they are angry.

Some because they are searching.

Some because life became so confusing they no longer knew which direction to walk.

Wandering has been part of the human story for as long as human history has been written.

People wander from their families.

They wander from their dreams.

They wander from their values.

Sometimes they even wander from themselves.

The important part of this lyric is not the wandering.

It is the reach.

The song says the distance may have changed, but the relationship had not been broken.

There is hope in that idea.

Many people carry the belief that they have gone too far.

They tell themselves they have made too many mistakes.

They waited too long.

They failed too many times.

They disappointed too many people.

They believe there is no road back.

This lyric quietly answers that fear.

It does not erase responsibility.

The song never suggests that our choices have no consequences.

Instead, it says something different.

No matter how confused the journey became, mercy remained possible.

That is a very different message from pretending mistakes never happened.

It recognizes failure while refusing to make failure the end of the story.

I have not abandoned you.

These words answer the very first questions of the song.

Earlier the writer asked,

“Jesus Christ, are You there?”

“Can You hear me?”

Now the answer finally arrives.

Not with an explanation.

With reassurance.

That is important.

Many people spend years asking why.

Sometimes they never receive a complete explanation.

Life contains mysteries that remain mysteries.

The song understands that.

Instead of answering every question about suffering, it answers the deepest fear underneath those questions.

You were never alone.

For many people, abandonment is one of the greatest wounds they carry.

Some experienced it as children.

Some experienced it in relationships.

Some experienced it through friends who disappeared when life became difficult.

Others felt abandoned by society.

When someone carries enough experiences like that, they may eventually expect abandonment everywhere.

Even from God.

This lyric gently breaks that expectation.

The person felt abandoned.

The voice says they were not.

That distinction changes everything.

Feelings are real.

But they are not always complete.

Sometimes our pain tells us a story that is not entirely true.

Sometimes fear becomes louder than reality.

Sometimes loneliness convinces us nobody cares, even while people are quietly standing beside us.

The song never criticizes the person for feeling abandoned.

It simply offers a different understanding.

Open your heart,

And you will find Me.

This invitation feels very different from a command.

The voice does not demand perfection.

It does not demand impossible standards.

It simply invites openness.

That matters because hearts often close after disappointment.

Pain teaches people to protect themselves.

Betrayal teaches people to trust less.

Loss teaches people to become cautious.

Sometimes those walls protect us.

Sometimes they also prevent us from receiving the very thing we have been searching for.

Opening the heart always carries risk.

Whether it is opening your heart to another person, to forgiveness, to hope, or to faith, there is always vulnerability involved.

You cannot truly love while remaining completely protected.

You cannot fully trust while guaranteeing you will never be hurt.

Faith requires a similar openness.

Not blind acceptance.

Not pretending every question has disappeared.

Simply allowing the possibility that there may be more happening than we presently understand.

That is where the song now arrives.

Not at certainty.

At openness.

The fear began to fade away.

Notice the wording.

The fear did not suddenly disappear.

It began to fade.

That is one of the most realistic lines in the song.

Real healing is usually gradual.

Grief changes gradually.

Trust returns gradually.

Confidence grows gradually.

Very few people wake up one morning completely transformed.

More often the changes are so small we barely notice them.

Then one day we look back and realize we are no longer standing where we once stood.

That is how fear often loses its grip.

Not all at once.

Little by little.

One peaceful day.

One encouraging conversation.

One answered prayer.

One difficult day survived.

Another reason to keep going.

Eventually the fear that once controlled everything no longer has the same power.

That slow transformation feels honest because it reflects how many people actually experience healing.

The silence wasn’t empty anymore.

Earlier in the journey silence felt frightening.

It seemed to prove that no one was listening.

Now nothing outside has changed.

The silence itself remains.

Only the person’s understanding has changed.

That is one of the most beautiful ideas in the song.

Sometimes life itself has not changed nearly as much as the way we understand it.

The same silence that once felt empty now feels peaceful.

The same quiet that once created fear now creates room for reflection.

The same unanswered moments now carry hope instead of despair.

This reminds me that meaning is not always found by changing our surroundings.

Sometimes it is found by seeing those surroundings differently.

The silence did not become full.

The person finally recognized what had always been present within it.

Every prayer I’d ever spoken

Had reached His open door.

This realization brings tremendous comfort.

Many people quietly wonder whether their prayers disappeared into nothing.

Especially when they waited a long time.

Especially when the answer seemed different from what they hoped for.

The song answers that fear without promising every request receives exactly the outcome we wanted.

Instead, it says something deeper.

Every prayer was heard.

There is an important distinction between hearing and granting.

Parents understand this.

A loving parent hears every request from a child.

Not every request becomes yes.

That does not mean the child was ignored.

It means love sometimes sees farther than immediate desire.

The song leaves room for mystery here.

It never claims to understand why every prayer receives the answer it does.

It simply removes the fear that sincere prayers were wasted.

That matters because many people stop praying when they believe nobody is listening.

The person in this song discovers they were never speaking into emptiness.

Their words had always reached an open door.

I need to know

Are You walking next to me,

Even when I cannot see?

The chorus returns.

But it no longer feels the same.

Earlier it came from desperation.

Now it comes after reassurance.

The words themselves have not changed.

The heart behind them has.

That is exactly why songs repeat choruses.

Life has changed between one chorus and the next.

The reader now hears these lines differently because the journey has moved forward.

The question is still being asked.

But hope has entered the conversation.

Earlier the person feared they were alone.

Now they have begun believing they may have been accompanied all along.

The destination has not yet been reached.

But the direction has changed.

That changes everything.

Give me strength when I feel low.

Light the path so I can grow.

These lines also carry new meaning now.

Earlier they sounded like desperate requests.

Now they feel like willing prayers.

The person is no longer demanding immediate rescue.

They are asking for strength.

They are asking for growth.

That is significant.

Growth usually requires time.

Strength usually develops through experience.

The song is preparing us for its final movement.

The person who began by searching for proof is slowly becoming someone who is learning to trust.

The road ahead has not become perfectly clear.

But the next step has become possible.

Sometimes that is exactly enough.

SECTION ONE

LYRIC JOURNEY

PART 4

If You’re speaking, let me hear.

If You’re near, erase my fear.

The journey has now reached a very different place from where it began.

At the beginning of the song, the writer was asking for proof.

Now he is asking for awareness.

That is a profound change.

Instead of demanding that God speak louder, he asks to become a better listener.

That subtle shift is often how growth happens.

We spend much of life asking the world to change.

Eventually we begin asking how we might change instead.

The request is no longer, “Show me something impossible.”

It becomes, “Help me recognize what I have been missing.”

The second line follows naturally.

“If You’re near, erase my fear.”

Notice that the writer does not ask for every problem to disappear.

He asks for fear to lose its control.

Fear changes the way we see everything.

It can make tomorrow look impossible.

It can convince us we are alone even when people love us.

It can turn uncertainty into hopelessness.

When fear begins to loosen its grip, we often discover that the situation is difficult, but not impossible.

The mountain is still there.

We simply discover that we are stronger than we believed.

Jesus Christ, don’t let me go.

This may be one of the most heartfelt moments in the song.

The writer is not asking to become successful.

He is not asking to become wealthy.

He is not asking for comfort.

He is asking not to lose the relationship that has become the centre of his search.

There is vulnerability here.

It reminds us that every relationship reaches moments when we fear losing it.

Children ask their parents not to leave.

Friends ask one another to stay.

Partners ask one another not to give up.

Here, the same longing is expressed toward God.

That makes the relationship feel deeply personal.

It is no longer a discussion about religion.

It is a conversation between one heart and another.

I need to know.

The chorus closes exactly as it did before.

But emotionally it no longer sounds the same.

Earlier those words felt desperate.

Now they carry hope.

The need still exists.

The journey is not finished.

But the fear underneath the words has already begun changing.

That is one of the strengths of a well-written chorus.

The lyrics remain identical.

The meaning grows because everything surrounding them has changed.

Close your eyes.

Be still for just a moment.

The song now becomes almost whisper-like.

Everything slows down.

The writer invites the listener to do something very simple.

Close your eyes.

Be still.

Those instructions may sound ordinary, but they are surprisingly difficult in today’s world.

We live surrounded by movement.

Phones vibrate.

Messages arrive.

News never stops.

Entertainment follows us everywhere.

Many people cannot remember the last time they simply sat quietly without reaching for a screen.

Stillness has become unfamiliar.

Yet many important moments in life happen there.

Ideas appear.

Memories return.

Forgiveness begins.

Healing starts.

Prayer deepens.

Gratitude becomes easier to recognize.

The song is asking the reader to step away from the noise for a moment.

Not because silence solves every problem.

Because silence often allows us to hear what constant noise keeps covering.

The answer isn’t always thunder.

This may be one of the defining lines of the entire song.

Human beings naturally look for dramatic moments.

We remember earthquakes.

We remember explosions.

We remember headlines.

We remember miracles.

The ordinary moments are easier to overlook.

Yet if we honestly examine our own lives, most of the experiences that shaped us were not dramatic at all.

Someone encouraged us when we were ready to quit.

A teacher believed in us.

A parent sacrificed something without telling us.

A friend answered the phone.

A stranger showed unexpected kindness.

A doctor kept searching for another treatment.

A nurse sat beside a frightened patient.

One quiet conversation changed everything.

Those moments rarely receive applause.

But they often become the turning points of an entire life.

The song reminds us that answers do not lose their value simply because they arrive quietly.

Sometimes it’s found

In the quiet between your thoughts.

This is one of the most poetic images in the song.

Think about how busy the human mind can become.

One thought interrupts another.

Worry follows memory.

Memory creates regret.

Regret creates fear.

Fear creates more thoughts.

The mind becomes crowded.

Yet almost everyone has experienced brief moments when all of that settles.

For just a second there is stillness.

Sometimes clarity arrives there.

Sometimes peace.

Sometimes acceptance.

Sometimes the next step becomes obvious.

The lyric is not suggesting that every thought is a message from God.

It is pointing toward something more universal.

When panic becomes quieter, wisdom often becomes easier to hear.

That wisdom may come through faith.

It may come through experience.

It may come through conscience.

It may come through remembering something someone once taught us.

Whatever its source, the song reminds us that constant noise is not always our friend.

Sometimes the answers we are chasing have been waiting patiently beneath the noise all along.

He’s beside you when you stumble.

He’s beside you when you stand.

I love the balance in these lines.

They refuse to divide life into success and failure.

Every person stumbles.

Every person stands.

Sometimes both happen on the same day.

The lyric reminds us that worth is not measured only by our strongest moments.

If presence exists only when we succeed, then none of us would experience it very often.

Instead, the song says something much more comforting.

Presence remains through both seasons.

During victory.

During failure.

During confidence.

During doubt.

During strength.

During weakness.

That feels honest because life constantly moves between those experiences.

No one remains permanently strong.

No one remains permanently weak.

We move back and forth throughout our lives.

The song suggests that love, mercy, and faithfulness move with us.

Not only during the moments when everything is going well.

But also during the moments when we struggle to stay on our feet.

The hands you’ve been searching for

Have always held your hand.

This is the emotional destination toward which the entire journey has been travelling.

Everything that came before prepared us for these words.

At the beginning of the song, the writer believed he was reaching into emptiness.

Now he discovers he was never reaching alone.

The image of holding hands is beautifully simple.

It reminds us of childhood.

Parents guiding children across busy streets.

Someone helping another person stand after they have fallen.

A loved one sitting beside a hospital bed.

A husband holding his wife’s hand.

A daughter holding her father’s.

Hands communicate something words often cannot.

Safety.

Presence.

Comfort.

The lyric says the search itself was never wasted.

The hands the writer believed were absent had quietly been there from the beginning.

The realization does not erase every painful memory.

It changes how those memories are understood.

Looking backward, the writer now sees companionship where he once saw only loneliness.

That prepares us perfectly for the final chorus, where the greatest change in the entire song will finally be revealed.

SECTION ONE

LYRIC JOURNEY

PART 5

I need to know

Now I know You’re walking here,

Standing with me through the years.

The final chorus begins with one of the most important changes in the entire song.

Only three words have changed.

“I need” has become “Now I.”

Yet those three words tell the whole story.

The writer has travelled from uncertainty to understanding.

Notice that the song does not say,

“Now I know why everything happened.”

It does not claim every mystery has been solved.

It does not pretend every painful memory suddenly makes sense.

Instead, it says something far more personal.

“Now I know You’re walking here.”

The answer is not information.

The answer is relationship.

Earlier, the writer was searching for evidence that he had not been abandoned.

Now he no longer speaks about searching.

He speaks about companionship.

The road has not disappeared.

The traveller has simply discovered he was never walking it alone.

That is a very different kind of answer.

Standing with me through the years.

Those final words of the opening lines invite the writer to look backward instead of forward.

That is something life often teaches us.

While we are living through difficult seasons, everything feels uncertain.

We ask whether we will survive.

Whether things will improve.

Whether tomorrow will be any different.

Years later we look back and realize something remarkable.

We made it.

Not because every day was easy.

Because we continued.

Sometimes we only recognize faithfulness after enough time has passed to see the whole journey instead of only one difficult moment.

Looking back allows us to notice the people who stayed.

The opportunities that appeared.

The strength we never knew we possessed.

The courage that somehow arrived exactly when we needed it.

The writer is doing exactly that.

He is no longer measuring life one painful day at a time.

He is seeing years.

That broader view changes everything.

Every trial helped me grow.

This line deserves careful attention because it can easily be misunderstood.

The song is not saying every painful experience was good.

It is not saying suffering should be celebrated.

It is not suggesting that injustice becomes acceptable simply because something positive eventually emerged from it.

There are experiences no one would ever choose.

Loss.

Illness.

Betrayal.

Violence.

Grief.

None of those become good simply because they happened.

The lyric says something different.

The trials became places where growth eventually occurred.

That is not the same thing.

Growth is our response.

It is what we choose to become after life has tested us.

Two people can experience similar pain and emerge very differently.

One may become consumed by bitterness.

Another may become deeply compassionate because they now understand suffering firsthand.

The trial does not automatically create wisdom.

The person still has choices.

This lyric celebrates those choices.

It reminds us that painful experiences do not have to write the rest of our story.

Every answer came in slow.

I think this may be one of the most truthful lines in the entire song.

Our world encourages speed.

Instant communication.

Instant information.

Instant entertainment.

Instant results.

Life rarely works that way.

Healing usually comes slowly.

Trust returns slowly.

Forgiveness grows slowly.

Understanding develops slowly.

Children become adults slowly.

Relationships deepen slowly.

Wisdom arrives slowly.

Looking back over my own life, many of the things I understand today would have made very little sense twenty years ago.

Not because the answers did not exist.

Because I had not yet lived enough life to recognize them.

Some lessons cannot be taught in a single conversation.

They must be lived.

This lyric honours that reality.

The writer no longer resents the slow journey.

He understands that the journey itself became part of the answer.

You were there through every storm,

Keeping my spirit safe and warm.

Storms appear throughout literature because everyone understands them.

Storms arrive unexpectedly.

They can be frightening.

They can leave damage behind.

Sometimes they pass quickly.

Sometimes they seem endless.

Life has emotional storms too.

Illness.

Loss.

Depression.

Fear.

Financial hardship.

Loneliness.

Broken relationships.

Periods when nothing feels certain.

The writer now looks back over every one of those seasons and recognizes something he could not see while living through them.

Presence.

The storms were real.

The pain was real.

But they were not travelled alone.

The second line adds another beautiful image.

“Keeping my spirit safe and warm.”

Notice that the lyric does not say the body avoided suffering.

It speaks about the spirit.

There are people whose physical circumstances remain difficult while their inner lives become stronger than ever.

History is filled with examples.

People who endured imprisonment without surrendering hope.

People who lived through illness while continuing to encourage others.

People who lost almost everything but refused to lose compassion.

This lyric recognizes that inner survival can become one of life’s greatest victories.

Jesus Christ,

You’ve always known.

The conversation now reaches complete peace.

Earlier the writer desperately asked whether Jesus knew.

Now there is no uncertainty.

The relationship has become settled.

That does not mean every future day will be easy.

It means the foundation beneath the writer has changed.

Confidence has replaced panic.

Trust has replaced desperation.

The questions that once dominated every thought have become quieter.

Not because curiosity disappeared.

Because confidence has grown.

Now I know.

The repetition matters.

Earlier the repetition emphasized need.

Now it emphasizes certainty.

The title itself has completed its journey.

That is beautiful songwriting.

The title has not simply been repeated throughout the song.

It has evolved.

At the beginning, “I need to know” sounded like someone reaching upward through darkness.

At the end, “Now I know” sounds like someone looking back with gratitude.

The words have travelled.

The listener has travelled with them.

That is exactly what a great song hopes to accomplish.

The emotional destination could not have been reached without every question that came before it.

The doubt mattered.

The silence mattered.

The searching mattered.

Without them, these final words would carry far less weight.

They feel true because we have earned them alongside the writer.

I don’t need another sign.

I don’t need another voice.

These lines do not reject miracles.

They reveal contentment.

Earlier the writer believed one more sign would solve everything.

Now he understands something much deeper.

Faith cannot depend on constant proof.

If every day required another miracle before we trusted again, we would never learn to walk.

The writer has reached the point where yesterday’s journey has become today’s confidence.

That confidence no longer depends on dramatic experiences.

It rests on everything already discovered.

That is a quiet kind of maturity.

One that life usually teaches only after many difficult seasons.

The journey is almost complete.

Only two simple lines remain, yet they will bring the entire song gently home.

SECTION ONE

LYRIC JOURNEY

PART 6

You were never far away.

I simply had to make the choice.

These are the final words of understanding before the song comes to rest.

At first glance, someone could misunderstand this lyric and think it suggests that faith is only a matter of deciding to believe.

I don’t think that’s what the song is saying.

The journey has been far too honest for that.

The writer has already walked through fear.

He has questioned.

He has doubted.

He has searched.

He has waited.

He has listened.

The choice isn’t about pretending those experiences never happened.

The choice is about deciding what they will mean.

Every person eventually reaches moments where life presents a decision that nobody else can make for them.

Will this pain make me bitter or wiser?

Will this disappointment close my heart or deepen it?

Will I spend the rest of my life believing I was abandoned, or will I remain open to the possibility that I was being carried in ways I couldn’t yet understand?

Those choices belong to each of us.

No one else can make them.

The writer reaches the point where he understands that the biggest change did not happen outside him.

It happened within him.

The storms had already been faced.

The prayers had already been spoken.

The silence had already been endured.

The change came when he chose to see the journey through different eyes.

That is not pretending.

That is growth.

Sometimes growth is learning that the facts of our lives have not changed, but our understanding of them has.

There are moments from my own life that once seemed completely meaningless.

Years later I can look back and recognize that they changed me in ways I never expected.

Not because I enjoyed them.

Not because I would choose them again.

But because they forced me to become someone I would never have become otherwise.

Looking backward often gives us a perspective that looking forward never can.

That is exactly where the writer now stands.

He is no longer trapped inside the question.

He has reached the place where gratitude has become possible.

Jesus Christ

Thank You for never leaving me.

The song ends exactly where it should.

Not with another question.

Not with another request.

Not with another explanation.

With gratitude.

That gratitude carries tremendous emotional weight because we know everything that came before it.

If these words had appeared at the beginning of the song, they would not have carried the same meaning.

The writer had to travel through uncertainty before gratitude could become genuine.

He had to experience silence before he could appreciate reassurance.

He had to feel alone before he could fully understand companionship.

That is why the ending feels earned.

One of the most powerful aspects of this closing is what it does not say.

It does not thank Jesus for removing every difficulty.

It does not thank Him because every prayer received exactly the answer that was hoped for.

It does not claim life suddenly became easy.

Instead, it thanks Him for never leaving.

That is a very different kind of gratitude.

It recognizes presence rather than perfection.

Companionship rather than comfort.

Faithfulness rather than explanations.

I think that distinction is one of the reasons this song feels so human.

Many people never receive complete answers to every painful question.

Very few people fully understand why every tragedy happened.

Most of us continue living with mysteries.

The song accepts that reality.

It never pretends every question has disappeared.

Instead, it suggests that perhaps the greatest answer was never information.

Perhaps it was knowing we were never abandoned.

When I step back and look at the entire journey, I see a song that quietly mirrors the journey many people travel through life.

We begin believing that faith means certainty.

Then life happens.

Pain arrives.

Loss arrives.

Illness arrives.

Disappointment arrives.

Questions appear that we never expected to ask.

For a while it can feel as though faith itself is slipping away.

Yet sometimes something unexpected happens.

The questions do not destroy faith.

They reshape it.

It becomes less about having every answer and more about continuing the relationship.

Less about certainty and more about trust.

Less about demanding explanations and more about recognizing presence.

That is exactly where this song arrives.

The title tells the whole story.

It begins with, “I Need to Know.”

It ends with, “Now I Know.”

Not because every mystery has been solved.

Because the writer has discovered something even more valuable.

He is no longer measuring God’s presence by whether life became easy.

He measures it by looking back over every difficult year and recognizing that somehow he continued walking.

Somehow he continued hoping.

Somehow he continued searching.

Somehow he continued speaking the name of Jesus Christ.

The journey began with fear.

It travelled through silence.

It wrestled with doubt.

It paused to listen.

It slowly recognized mercy.

It discovered that quiet answers can be just as life-changing as dramatic ones.

It found companionship where it once believed there was only loneliness.

It finished with gratitude instead of certainty.

That is why this song stays with the listener after the music ends.

It does not tell people what they must believe.

It simply walks beside anyone who has ever whispered into the darkness,

“Jesus, are You there?”

And by the end of the journey, it gently reminds them that sometimes the answer is only recognized after we have travelled far enough to look back and see the entire road.

The song is over.

The journey is complete.

But like every meaningful journey, it quietly invites one more thing.

To press play again.

Because now the listener will hear every lyric differently.

SECTION TWO

THE STORY BEHIND

I NEED TO KNOW

Some songs begin with an idea.

Some begin with a melody.

Some begin with a memory that refuses to leave.

This one began with a question.

Not a question I expected someone else to answer for me.

A question that kept coming back whenever life became difficult.

Where are You?

I think most people, whether they admit it or not, eventually ask that question.

It might happen in a hospital waiting room.

It might happen after losing someone they love.

It might happen after years of physical pain.

It might happen when a marriage falls apart, when a child is suffering, when a business collapses, or when life suddenly becomes something they no longer recognize.

People often think faith removes those questions.

I don’t believe it does.

Sometimes faith is exactly what causes us to ask them.

If we truly believe God is there, then naturally we wonder why certain moments feel so empty.

That doesn’t mean we have stopped believing.

Sometimes it means we are trying harder than ever to keep believing.

That was the beginning of this song.

Learning To Live With Questions

I’ve always been curious.

I ask questions about almost everything.

History.

People.

Technology.

Human behaviour.

Justice.

Relationships.

Life.

Faith.

Some people think asking questions shows weakness.

I’ve always believed it shows a desire to understand.

There is a huge difference.

The strongest faith I’ve seen has never belonged to people who refused to ask questions.

It belonged to people who kept searching even when they couldn’t see the answer yet.

I have lived through enough experiences to understand how easily life can change.

There were years when pain became part of nearly every day.

Years when sleeping through the night became almost impossible.

Years when simple things that most people take for granted became victories.

When you live that way, your prayers change.

You stop asking for bigger houses.

You stop asking for money.

You stop asking for success.

You start asking for sleep.

For relief.

For enough strength to get through one more day.

When those prayers seem to go unanswered, it naturally affects the way you think.

Not because you stop believing.

Because you’re trying to understand.

Silence Can Become Very Loud

One of the biggest themes inside this song is silence.

Most people think silence means nothing is happening.

I don’t.

Silence has its own sound.

Especially when you’re alone.

I’ve spent long periods of my life with far more time to think than I ever wanted.

When the television is off,

The phone isn’t ringing,

Nobody is talking,

The mind becomes impossible to ignore.

Old memories return.

Mistakes come back.

Regrets revisit you.

Questions you pushed aside years ago suddenly sit down beside you.

Silence can become uncomfortable.

It can also become one of the greatest teachers you’ll ever have.

That’s one of the reasons I wrote,

“I’ve searched the silence”

Searching silence isn’t passive.

It’s exhausting.

You’re hoping for something.

Waiting for something.

Listening for something.

Wondering whether the next thought might finally make sense of everything that’s happened.

Sometimes nothing comes.

At least it feels that way.

Looking For God In The Wrong Place

One of the biggest changes inside this song happened while I was writing it.

The person begins by looking outward.

They’re waiting for God to appear.

They’re waiting for a voice.

A sign.

A miracle.

Something impossible to misunderstand.

Then something slowly changes.

Instead of asking,

“Where are You?”

the question quietly becomes,

“Have I been looking the wrong way?”

That may be the most important moment in the entire song.

Maybe I expected every answer to arrive dramatically.

Maybe I expected thunder.

Maybe I expected every problem to disappear overnight.

Maybe God had been speaking all along,

just not in the way I expected.

That thought completely changed where the song was going.

The Quiet Answers

I’ve learned something over the years.

Most of life’s biggest changes don’t happen because of one enormous moment.

They happen through hundreds of quiet ones.

A conversation.

Someone refusing to give up on you.

A doctor who keeps trying.

A stranger who unexpectedly shows kindness.

Finding enough strength to stand up again.

Realizing you survived something you once believed would destroy you.

Those moments rarely make the news.

But they change lives.

Sometimes I think we’re waiting so hard for lightning that we completely miss the sunrise.

That became one of the central ideas of this song.

“The answer isn’t always thunder.”

I believe that.

Not only in faith.

In life itself.

Looking Back Instead Of Looking Ahead

One of the interesting things about life is that we usually understand it backwards.

While we’re living through difficult moments, very little makes sense.

Years later,

we begin connecting the pieces.

We remember who stayed.

We remember who disappeared.

We recognize lessons we couldn’t see while we were hurting.

We discover strengths we never knew we had.

Sometimes we even realize we survived because something inside us refused to quit.

For a believer, that realization can become part of faith.

Not because every question has finally been answered.

Because you begin recognizing that perhaps you were never carrying everything alone.

That thought stayed with me while writing the final chorus.

The person no longer says,

“I need to know.”

Now they say,

“Now I know.”

Notice something important.

Nothing dramatic necessarily changed outside their life.

The storms still happened.

Pain still existed.

Questions still remained.

What changed,

was the person.

Sometimes that’s where the greatest miracle begins.

Why This Song Means So Much To Me

This isn’t a song about pretending life is easy.

It isn’t a song pretending every prayer receives the exact answer we hoped for.

It isn’t a song claiming I understand every reason people suffer.

I don’t.

Nobody honestly does.

This song is about something far more personal.

It’s about refusing to stop searching.

It’s about believing that honest questions do not offend God.

It’s about understanding that silence and abandonment are not always the same thing.

It’s about discovering that faith isn’t the absence of questions.

Sometimes faith is choosing to keep walking while the questions remain.

That is the journey inside I Need to Know.

I hope that if someone finds this song during one of the hardest seasons of their life, they don’t feel judged.

I hope they don’t feel guilty because they’re asking difficult questions.

I hope they simply feel understood.

Because sometimes that’s where healing begins.

Not with perfect answers.

With knowing you’re not the only person who’s ever asked,

“Jesus, are You there?”

SECTION THREE

LYRIC BREAKDOWN

WHAT I LIVED, WHAT I FELT, AND WHY THESE WORDS EXIST

“WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME?”

This song begins exactly where many people find themselves when life suddenly changes.

Not with confidence.

Not with certainty.

With a question.

I deliberately chose simple words because real pain usually strips away complicated language. When someone receives terrible news, loses someone they love, hears a frightening diagnosis, or watches their world begin to fall apart, they rarely speak in long speeches. They ask the same questions millions of other people have asked throughout history.

Why?

Why me?

Why now?

What did I do?

How long is this going to last?

Those questions are not signs of weakness. They are signs that someone is trying to understand a reality they never expected to face.

I wanted the song to begin there because I think many people have been afraid to admit those words out loud.

“JESUS CHRIST, ARE YOU THERE? CAN YOU HEAR ME?”

This may be one of the most vulnerable lines I have ever written.

The person isn’t debating whether Jesus existed.

The person already believes.

They’re asking something far more personal.

Can You hear me?

There is an enormous difference.

Faith doesn’t remove loneliness.

Faith doesn’t automatically remove grief.

Faith doesn’t always remove fear.

Sometimes the greatest struggle isn’t believing God exists.

It’s wondering whether He still sees you in the middle of your own suffering.

I think many believers have experienced that moment but have been afraid to admit it because they worried someone would think their faith wasn’t strong enough.

I don’t believe honest questions weaken faith.

Sometimes they reveal how much faith still remains.

Someone who has stopped caring rarely continues searching.

“I’VE SEARCHED THE SILENCE, I’VE WALKED ALONE.”

Silence became one of the central characters in this song.

Most people think silence is simply the absence of sound.

I don’t.

Silence can become a place where every unanswered question lives.

When life becomes quiet, there is nowhere left to hide from your own thoughts.

I’ve experienced long periods when silence became part of daily life.

During those times I found myself thinking about everything.

Life.

Loss.

Purpose.

Mistakes.

People.

God.

The future.

The past.

Silence can become frightening because it forces us to meet ourselves honestly.

But silence can also become the place where we finally stop running.

The person in this song enters silence believing it proves God isn’t answering.

By the end of the song they realize silence wasn’t empty after all.

Their understanding changed.

“WHY DOES HEAVEN FEEL SO FAR FROM HOME?”

This line isn’t questioning heaven.

It’s describing emotion.

There are seasons when faith feels natural.

Prayer comes easily.

Hope feels alive.

Then there are seasons when everything feels distant.

Nothing seems to move.

Nothing seems to change.

Heaven suddenly feels much farther away than it once did.

I think many people quietly experience that feeling without ever talking about it.

I wanted to acknowledge it instead of pretending it doesn’t exist.

“I KEEP REACHING THROUGH THE DARKNESS, LOOKING FOR A SINGLE RAY.”

Notice the person isn’t asking for the entire future.

They’re asking for one ray.

One step.

One reason to continue.

Sometimes that’s all we need.

During difficult seasons we often make the mistake of trying to solve our entire future at once.

Life rarely works that way.

Most people survive one day at a time.

Sometimes one conversation changes everything.

Sometimes one encouraging person changes everything.

Sometimes one small moment of hope becomes enough to keep walking.

A single ray can become an entire sunrise if we refuse to stop moving.

“IF YOU’RE STANDING RIGHT BESIDE ME, WHY CAN’T I FIND THE WAY?”

This may be the emotional centre of the song.

If God is here,

Why am I still lost?

If You’re guiding me,

Why can’t I see the road?

Those are honest questions.

The song never criticizes God.

Neither does it criticize the person asking.

Instead, it allows the tension to exist honestly.

Sometimes we don’t understand.

Sometimes we simply don’t know.

Admitting that isn’t failure.

It’s honesty.

“I NEED TO KNOW.”

The title keeps returning because the need hasn’t disappeared.

This isn’t curiosity.

It’s survival.

There are moments when people don’t need another opinion.

They don’t need another motivational quote.

They don’t need someone telling them everything will work out.

They need enough hope to continue breathing.

Enough hope to keep believing.

Enough hope to get through tomorrow.

That urgency is why the chorus repeats the title several times.

“ARE YOU WALKING NEXT TO ME, EVEN WHEN I CANNOT SEE?”

As the song develops, the questions slowly begin changing.

Instead of demanding proof, the person begins wondering whether they’ve overlooked something.

Maybe presence doesn’t depend on sight.

Maybe help doesn’t always arrive dramatically.

Sometimes we recognize support only after we’ve survived.

Looking backward often reveals things we completely missed while living through them.

That’s true in faith.

It’s also true in life.

“LIGHT THE PATH SO I CAN GROW.”

This line became important to me because growth is very different from comfort.

Most of us pray for difficult situations to end.

There’s nothing wrong with that.

But eventually another question appears.

What can I learn from this?

How can I become better instead of becoming bitter?

Growth doesn’t erase pain.

It gives pain somewhere meaningful to go.

The person isn’t asking simply to escape.

They’re asking to become someone stronger because of the journey.

“THE LIGHT IS NOT A DISTANT PROMISE. THE LIGHT IS LIVING DEEP WITHIN.”

This is where the entire direction of the song begins changing.

At the beginning the person keeps searching outside themselves.

By this point they begin recognizing something they had overlooked.

Strength already exists.

Hope already exists.

Love already exists.

Compassion already exists.

Faith already exists.

Fear had simply become louder than all of them.

The light isn’t created here.

It’s discovered.

“GOD IS ALWAYS SPEAKING SOFTLY, BUT WE MUST LEARN TO LISTEN.”

I don’t believe every answer arrives dramatically.

Sometimes the biggest changes in life happen almost quietly.

A conversation.

A memory.

A feeling.

An unexpected peace.

A stranger.

A child.

A doctor.

A friend.

The courage to continue another day.

The world teaches us to expect thunder.

Life often changes through whispers.

That’s what this lyric represents.

“MY MERCY HAS NEVER LEFT YOU.”

This is one of the most hopeful moments in the song.

Many people carry guilt for years.

They believe they’ve wandered too far.

Made too many mistakes.

Waited too long.

This lyric answers those fears.

Mercy didn’t disappear simply because life became confusing.

Mercy remained available.

The door remained open.

That doesn’t remove responsibility.

It reminds us that failure doesn’t have to become our permanent identity.

“THE FEAR BEGAN TO FADE AWAY. THE SILENCE WASN’T EMPTY ANYMORE.”

Nothing outside the person’s life necessarily changed overnight.

The fear simply began losing its control.

That’s realistic.

Healing usually happens gradually.

Faith often grows gradually.

Peace usually grows gradually.

The silence never actually changed.

The person’s understanding changed.

What once felt empty now became a place where they recognized they had never been completely alone.

“THE ANSWER ISN’T ALWAYS THUNDER.”

This may be the lesson that reaches beyond faith.

We often wait for dramatic moments before believing change has happened.

Life usually doesn’t work that way.

Most marriages are strengthened by thousands of small acts of kindness.

Most friendships survive because someone stayed.

Most recoveries happen one day at a time.

Most healing happens quietly.

The greatest answers often arrive disguised as ordinary moments.

“THE HANDS YOU’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR HAVE ALWAYS HELD YOUR HAND.”

This became the emotional answer to the entire song.

The person spent the whole journey searching.

Then they suddenly realize something beautiful.

They were never carrying everything alone.

For someone with faith, those hands become God’s hands.

For anyone listening, the image also reminds us how often support surrounds us before we recognize it.

Sometimes we only understand that years later.

“NOW I KNOW.”

The title changes.

That wasn’t accidental.

The person doesn’t suddenly know everything.

They still don’t have every answer.

They still don’t understand every tragedy.

They now know something much more important.

They know they weren’t abandoned.

Sometimes that single realization changes everything.

“JESUS CHRIST, THANK YOU FOR NEVER LEAVING ME.”

The song ends with gratitude instead of certainty.

That distinction matters.

The person never receives explanations for every painful experience.

They receive peace instead.

For me, that’s one of the deepest truths in the song.

Life doesn’t always answer every question.

Faith doesn’t always remove every mystery.

Sometimes the greatest answer is discovering that even during the moments when you believed you were completely alone, you never truly were.

That is the journey inside I Need to Know.

The song begins with fear.

It walks through doubt.

It listens to silence.

It searches for light.

It discovers hope.

And it ends not with every mystery solved, but with a heart that has learned to trust again.

That is why these words exist.

SECTION FOUR

REFLECTION

When I finished writing I Need to Know, I realized it wasn’t really a song about finding every answer.

It was a song about learning to live with questions without losing hope.

I don’t believe faith means never struggling.

I don’t believe faith means never crying.

I don’t believe faith means pretending everything is fine when your heart is breaking.

Real faith is often much quieter than people imagine.

Sometimes it is nothing more than deciding to get out of bed one more morning.

Sometimes it is whispering one more prayer when yesterday’s prayer seemed unanswered.

Sometimes it is choosing not to let bitterness become the final chapter of your life.

I think many people carry guilt because they have questioned God.

They worry that asking “Why?” somehow makes them a bad believer.

I don’t see it that way.

When I read through the Bible, I see people asking difficult questions.

I see fear.

I see grief.

I see disappointment.

I see people who loved God but still struggled to understand what He was doing.

That reminds me that faith and honesty are not enemies.

In many ways, honesty is one of the purest expressions of faith.

If you believe God already knows your heart, then pretending everything is perfect serves no purpose.

Speak honestly.

If you’re afraid, say you’re afraid.

If you’re hurt, say you’re hurt.

If you’re confused, admit you’re confused.

If you’re thankful, say thank You.

God already knows which one is true.

One of the biggest lessons this song taught me is that we often measure God’s presence by whether life becomes easier.

Maybe that’s the wrong measurement.

Perhaps His presence is found in the strength that helped us survive something we thought would destroy us.

Perhaps it is found in the people who appeared at exactly the right time.

Perhaps it is found in the courage to keep walking when giving up would have been much easier.

Perhaps it is found in the quiet moments when fear slowly loses its grip.

Those moments rarely make headlines.

They rarely become dramatic stories.

Yet they quietly change lives every day.

Looking back over my own life, I can think of many times when I didn’t understand what was happening.

There were seasons filled with physical pain.

Seasons filled with uncertainty.

Seasons when I wondered what the future would look like.

At the time, I wanted immediate answers.

Today, I realize many of the most important answers arrived slowly.

Not because they were being withheld.

Because I wasn’t yet ready to understand them.

Life has a way of teaching us in stages.

Sometimes we only recognize how far we’ve come after we stop long enough to look behind us.

That doesn’t erase the pain.

It doesn’t erase the losses.

It doesn’t erase the questions that still remain.

But it can remind us that we survived days we once believed would break us forever.

There is another reason this song matters to me.

It reminds me to be careful when someone else is hurting.

When people are suffering, they usually don’t need someone to explain everything.

They don’t need a collection of easy answers.

Most of the time they need someone willing to sit beside them.

Someone willing to listen.

Someone willing to say, “I don’t understand everything either, but you don’t have to face this alone.”

Sometimes our presence becomes part of another person’s healing.

Sometimes our silence speaks louder than our advice.

Sometimes compassion becomes the answer we were both searching for.

If this song encourages anything, I hope it encourages honesty.

Honesty with ourselves.

Honesty with the people we love.

Honesty with God.

Questions are not the opposite of faith.

Sometimes they are the beginning of a deeper faith.

If you’re still searching,

Keep searching.

If you’re still praying,

Keep praying.

If you’re still waiting,

Don’t believe waiting automatically means you’ve been forgotten.

Some answers come quickly.

Others arrive one quiet step at a time.

Whether you’re standing at the beginning of your journey, somewhere in the middle, or looking back over a lifetime of questions, I hope this song reminds you that hope doesn’t require knowing everything.

Sometimes hope is simply believing that the next step is still worth taking.

Thank you for spending your time with me and allowing me to share one of the most personal conversations I’ve ever put into a song.

If these words reminded you of your own journey, then perhaps we weren’t walking alone after all.

EVERY STORY TEACHES SOMETHING

SECTION FIVE

MOITA DOCUMENTARY & LEARNING CENTRE

WHY DO PEOPLE QUESTION GOD?

One of the oldest questions in human history is not whether God exists.

It is why God sometimes seems silent.

That question has been asked for thousands of years by people from every culture, every generation, and every walk of life.

Parents have asked it beside hospital beds.

Soldiers have asked it on battlefields.

Prisoners have asked it from lonely cells.

Widows have asked it at gravesides.

Children have asked it after losing someone they loved.

People of great faith have asked it.

People with almost no faith have asked it.

The question itself is part of being human.

Throughout history, many of the people remembered for their faith also experienced seasons of doubt, fear, loneliness, and confusion. Their stories remind us that asking difficult questions does not automatically mean faith has disappeared. Sometimes it means faith is being tested, refined, and strengthened through real life.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOUBT AND UNBELIEF

Many people treat doubt and unbelief as though they are the same thing.

I don’t think they are.

Doubt asks questions because it wants understanding.

Unbelief stops looking altogether.

A person experiencing doubt may continue praying even when they don’t feel anything.

They may continue searching even while wondering if anyone is listening.

That continued search says something important.

It says hope is still alive.

I think many people have left places of worship because they felt their questions were unwelcome.

My hope is that this song reminds people that honest questions can become part of an honest relationship with God.

You don’t have to pretend.

You don’t have to perform.

You don’t have to hide your fears behind perfect words.

WHY SUFFERING CHANGES PEOPLE

Pain changes everyone.

The question is how.

Some people become bitter.

Some become compassionate.

Some become fearful.

Some become stronger.

Some withdraw from the world.

Others decide to help people because they understand what suffering feels like.

There isn’t one universal response.

That is why we should be careful when judging another person’s journey.

We rarely know everything they have carried.

This song isn’t trying to explain why suffering exists.

Entire libraries have been written on that subject, and no single answer satisfies every situation.

Instead, the song focuses on something more personal.

How do we keep walking when suffering becomes part of life?

Sometimes surviving one more day is an act of courage.

Sometimes asking one more question is an act of faith.

THE POWER OF STILLNESS

Modern life is filled with noise.

Televisions.

Phones.

Social media.

News.

Advertising.

Schedules.

Opinions.

Arguments.

Very few people spend much time simply being still.

Yet many people discover some of life’s deepest moments during quiet reflection.

That doesn’t mean every quiet thought comes from God.

It does mean that silence often allows us to hear our own conscience more clearly.

It allows us to slow down.

To think.

To pray.

To remember.

To forgive.

To heal.

Whether someone approaches stillness through prayer, quiet reflection, or simply spending time away from constant distractions, creating space for silence can help us understand ourselves more honestly.

WHY PEOPLE OF FAITH STILL STRUGGLE

One misunderstanding about faith is that believers no longer experience fear.

Life doesn’t work that way.

People of faith still become sick.

They still lose loved ones.

They still struggle with grief.

They still experience anxiety.

They still ask difficult questions.

Faith doesn’t eliminate every storm.

It changes how we walk through them.

Sometimes the greatest testimony isn’t that someone avoided hardship.

It’s that they continued moving forward despite it.

That idea sits at the heart of I Need to Know.

The person isn’t rescued from every difficulty.

The person discovers they weren’t facing those difficulties completely alone.

THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPASSION

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that we should be careful with our words when someone is hurting.

Quick answers rarely heal deep wounds.

Sometimes people don’t need another explanation.

They need someone willing to listen.

Someone willing to sit quietly beside them.

Someone willing to say,

“I don’t understand everything either, but I’m here.”

Compassion doesn’t solve every problem.

It reminds people they don’t have to carry every problem by themselves.

Never underestimate the difference one caring person can make in another person’s life.
