THE EMPTY HOURGLASS

You can replace a lot of things in life.

A car. A house. Money. A job. Something you broke. Sometimes even something you thought you could never live without.

Time is different.

Once that sand falls through the hourglass, you can stare at it all you want. You can regret what you did with it. You can wish you had used it differently. But you cannot put yesterday back on the clock.

That is what The Empty Hourglass means to me.

The hourglass is an old and simple invention. Two chambers, some sand and gravity. Nothing electronic. No battery. No numbers flashing at you. Yet it tells one of the biggest truths we live with.

Time moves whether we are ready or not.

We spend it working. Waiting. Loving. Fighting. Sleeping. Worrying. Building things. Chasing things. Sometimes we waste years on something that eventually means nothing.

The strange part is that we usually don’t know which moments mattered most until they are already behind us.

That empty hourglass isn’t only about death or getting older. It can be about a conversation you kept putting off. A child growing up. Somebody you meant to visit. An opportunity you thought would come around again.

Some things do come around again.

Some don’t.

You can buy another clock.

You can’t buy another yesterday.

Maybe that is why an empty hourglass can say so much without saying anything at all.

It doesn’t tell you how much time you have left.

It asks what you are doing with the time that is still falling.
